About the Instructor

Dennis Freischlad

Dennis Freischlad is a Writer/Poet, nomadic Traveller and a Luta Livre / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt. In the recent years he has found himself teaching Jiu-Jitsu to beginners all over the world, in India, Greece, Germany or Sri Lanka. Over the years, he has developed his own way of coaching, and his classes focus highly on the main concepts and fundamentals of Grappling, its main principles and movements. Since his travels often bring him to places that lack proper Martial Art Gyms, he introduced warm up drills and exercises from his Martial Arts training to stay fit and work out from home. Out of this necessity, he naturally developed the MAF Program which he is now teaching wherever life brings him. Currently Dennis moves mainly between India, Thailand and Europe.

Coach Dennis came to Sri Lanka and gave us Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes for 2 months. Dennis has a natural ability for teaching and a great mind for BJJ. He helped understand concepts that improved my BJJ level drastically. The classes were very well researched and focused on techniques/concepts. It was great having him as a coach, looking forward to train with Dennis again!

What sets Dennis apart from other coaches is his ability to break down each move and explain it in a way that is easy to understand. He takes the time to answer questions and make sure that everyone in the class understands the technique before moving on to the next one. His friendly demeanor and approachable personality make him a pleasure to learn from. Dennis is also very patient and encouraging, which makes him an excellent coach for students of all levels, whether you're a beginner just starting out or an experienced practitioner looking to refine your skills. He creates a positive learning environment that fosters growth and encourages students to challenge themselves. Overall, I highly recommend Dennis as a BJJ coach. His practical techniques and detail-oriented teaching style, combined with his friendly and approachable personality, make him an excellent choice for anyone looking to improve their skills on the mat.

When I met Dennis I was living in Greece, where he was teaching JiuJitsu. I was always curious to try, but never had the guts, and stayed with what I knew; Muay Thai. Surprisingly I fell in love with the sport right away, Dennis was an amazing teacher who created such a welcoming and open vibe in his academy. From a women’s perspective, it can be an intimidating step to train Jiujitsu with men, (at least that was the case for me) but in Dennis his classes, everybody was very respectful. I felt seen by Dennis, keeping an eye out for me, making sure it would never get uncomfortable in some way, or for anyone, in that matter. Yet they never let me win, or played safe with me because I am a girl;) (thank god:) People of all levels where training in his classes, The vibe was always good, playful, and fanatic at times;) Im still practicing jiujitsu to this day, unfortunately not with Dennis anymore, as I moved away from Greece to Amsterdam, but if I could, I would definitely return!
